Scott Bessent, America's treasury secretary, announced a new set of sanctions(制裁) against Iran that he claimed would be “the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against(集结起来对抗) an adversary(敌手，对手)”. He also threatened secondary measures(次级制裁措施) against Iran’s trading partners but said they would be given time to comply. Iran vowed to retaliate(报复), warning that “not a single drop of oil” would leave the Gulf if the pressure continued. The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-led militia(民兵组织), said it would disband(解散) and merge with(与…合并) the Syrian army. The SDF was once America’s main partner in fighting Islamic State in Syria and controlled the country’s north-east for more than a decade. Meanwhile, America removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism(支持恐怖主义的国家), lifting a barrier to(解除对…的障碍) private investment in the country.
