SOON AFTER war broke out in the Gulf, Iranian drone(无人机)s targeted Amazon’s data centres in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. Last year PwC, a consultancy, predicted that across the Gulf data-centre capacity would rise fourfold(四倍) within five years, to about 4GW. The outbreak of war has not halt(阻止，使停止)ed the boom. HUMAIN, an AI company established by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund(主权财富基金), announced last month that it would build a facility with DataVolt, another Saudi firm, at Oxagon(沙特西海岸的工业城市奥克萨贡), an industrial city on the country’s west coast. Two other Saudi outfits, Axelerated Solutions and Al Moammar Information Systems, have also trumpet(大肆宣扬)ed new data-centre investments.

In September Amazon Web Services said it was expanding a partnership with HUMAIN to provide more data-centre capacity by 2028.
