You may not be a fan of Elon Musk. Perhaps you’re not even very interested in him. But if you watch “Musk”, a gruelling new documentary, you will realise that, osmotically, you have come to know a lot about the sometime trillionaire.(但如果你看了《马斯克》这部令人疲惫的新纪录片，就会意识到：不知不觉间，你已经对这个曾经的万亿富翁了解颇多。) This is a compliment to(对……的赞美/肯定) his influence and ubiquity(无处不在). It is less positive news for the documentary itself, even for the whole documentary genre.
In “Musk”—out now in American cinemas and screened at the BFI London Film Festival(伦敦国际电影节，英国最重要的电影节之一)—Alex Gibney, an Oscar-winning director, sets out to discover how Mr Musk has “assume(攫取，承担)d so much power, and why had we given it to him?” Using interviews with former colleagues and partners (business and romantic), the first half of the film chronicles Mr Musk’s breakneck rise, from PayPal to Tesla’s electric vehicles, the satellites of Starlink and reusable rockets of SpaceX.(影片前半部分利用对前同事和伴侣（商业与情感上的）的采访，记录了马斯克从PayPal到特斯拉电动车、星链卫星和SpaceX可回收火箭的飞速崛起。)
After a ten-minute interval, the second half covers his plunge(投身，突然陷入) into politics and AI. Mr Gibney shows how pandemic rules and the gender transition of one of his many children nudge(轻推，推动)d Mr Musk rightwards. Posing as a “free-speech absolutist(绝对主义者)”, he buys Twitter and tries to run it like Tesla. Then, after Donald Trump installs him at DOGE(政府效率部，特朗普设立的顾问机构), he tries to do the same with the federal government. Maybe one day the brain chips that are among his side hustles will let people download this saga in an instant.(也许有一天，作为他副业之一的脑机接口芯片能让人们瞬间下载这段传奇。) For now, it lasts almost four hours.
