A charming Victorian home(维多利亚式住宅) with four bedrooms and two bathrooms has just hit the market(上市；开始出售) for only £1,150 ($1,500), plus shipping. Newly renovated by the previous owner, this “dream house” promises hardwood floors, marble accents and a “gorgeous wraparound front porch”.(这栋“梦想之家”由前房主全新翻修，承诺配有硬木地板、大理石点缀和“华丽的环绕式前廊”。) The one catch(隐藏的问题；陷阱): it is just 54 inches wide by 42 inches tall. At least it has a low heating bill.

Miniatures are having a huge moment(正风靡一时). Hobbyists are jumping on the model bandwagon as collectors, makers or both. Attendance at dolls’ house conventions(娃娃屋大会) is booming. Miniatures.com, one of America’s leading small-creation retailers, has seen more than a tripling(三倍增长) of net sales over the past two years. The International Guild of Miniature Artisans—“miniature” referring to the size of the craft, not to the artisans themselves—saw “a record number” of new people attend their annual art course, according to Audrey Tripp, the director.(国际微缩工匠协会——“微缩”指的是工艺品的尺寸，而非工匠本人——迎来了“创纪录数量”的新人参加其年度艺术课程，据该协会主任奥黛丽·特里普介绍。)
The resurgence(复兴；再起) of this whimsical(异想天开的；奇趣的) pastime reflects growing enthusiasm for “grandma hobbies(奶奶辈的爱好)”, with people embracing hands-on, analogue activities. The tiny trend offers a “kind of escapism(逃避现实)”, says Steve Putnam, a miniaturist and collector. Stuck at home during covid, many young people rediscovered their childhood dolls’ houses, or needed a hobby that did not take up much space.(新冠疫情期间困在家中，许多年轻人重新发现了童年的娃娃屋，或者需要一个不占太多空间的爱好。) Miniatures provide the freedom to “create anything because it’s so small”, says Mr Putnam.
