The Houthis(也门胡塞武装), Yemeni rebels(反叛分子) backed by Iran, carried out(执行，实施) several strikes(袭击) on Saudi Arabia. At least 17 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in the attacks on Saudi airports. Some of the casualties(伤亡人员) were pilgrims(朝圣者) boarding a flight from Riyadh to Jeddah, the gateway to Islam’s holiest sites(吉达——伊斯兰圣地的门户). The Houthis also attacked the headquarters of Saudi Aramco(沙特阿美石油公司), the state oil firm. Donald Trump accused the rebels of “purposefully” trying to drive up(推高) oil prices ahead of America’s midterm elections(美国中期选举).

Joseph Kabila, a former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo(刚果民主共和国), was named the leader of the FRN, a new rebel alliance(联盟) that is fighting government forces in the east of the country. Mr Kabila, who was sentenced to death(被判处死刑) while in exile(流亡中) but returned to Congo last year, accuses the government of mismanaging(管理不善) the economy and disregarding(无视) the constitution.
