Clacton town centre is bustling(熙熙攘攘的,繁忙的), the beaches are packed and the pier’s raking in cash(赚大钱,财源滚滚). We can credit(把… 是原因) the weather, but no doubt press coverage and Count Binface(英国讽刺政治候选人,以恶搞著称)’s promotional videos have got us on radars(让我们进入公众视野) too. The tourists look like they’re having a lovely time.
I moved to Clacton in 2022 and the first year was brilliant(极好的,精彩的). It started with beach walks, cheap drinks and decorating a flat with panoramic sea views, and ended fat and happy from chips and ice-cream, a newborn baby in tow(带着,跟在后面). Privileged with my health and stable income, albeit strained by a Truss-era mortgage, it was a place I loved, and was proud of.(我享有健康和稳定收入的幸运,尽管特拉斯时代的抵押贷款让经济有些紧张,但这里曾是我深爱并引以为傲的地方。)
Then Nigel Farage targeted(把…作为目标,针对) us, and shit hit the fan(事情闹大了,麻烦来了).
