For mother-to-be(准妈妈,孕妇) Harriet Knight, the suspension(暂停,中止) of maternity services at one of England’s most remote hospitals means having to face horribly stark(严峻的,赤裸裸的) choices.
“The next closest maternity unit(产科病房) is a full two hours away and we have a family history of(有……的家族史) labour(分娩,阵痛) taking under two hours from start to finish,” said Knight.
“So we have the option of potentially giving birth in a layby(路边停车带) on the north Devon link road as we try to get there or opting for free-birthing(自由分娩(无医疗监护)) at home with no access to(无法获得) maternity care.”
