The owner of Zara is taking on(与…竞争;接受挑战) Primark, Shein and the supermarkets with the launch of its cut-price(廉价的;削价的) chain Lefties in Britain, backed by an army of(一大批;大量) robots.
The Spanish fashion brand opened its first UK store in Liverpool on Thursday, a few weeks after quietly(悄悄地;不声张地) launching its UK website.
The store has embraced(欣然接受;采用) robotics to reduce staffing costs, with self-checkouts that scan a whole basket in one go(一口气;一次完成) and a clothes hanger sorter(分拣机;分拣员). Shoppers put their hangers in a slot(狭槽;投币口) as they pay and they are taken on a hidden conveyor belt(传送带) to two robots behind a screen that sort them into boxes for different sizes.
