Salama Ayesh Muhanna still remembers the first seeds he planted on his family’s land in al-Qarara, Gaza. At just 17, Muhanna had proudly sprout(发芽；使生长)ed cucumbers.

“I was very happy because I saw the results,” Muhanna says. “We were farmers at heart(内心里；本质上).”

Now 71, he is an agronomist(农学家), a community leader and the founder of the Al-Qarara Seed Bank.
