Kristina Delaney was five months postpartum(产后的) when her husband saw something was very, very wrong. It was a Friday afternoon, and her husband had gone outside to make a phone call – concerned about his wife’s “hyperactive(过度活跃的)” speech.
When he returned, she was rock(轻轻摇晃)ing their two children in her arms, and said: “‘Please save us, please save our family,’” said Delaney. “And I thought Jesus was returning(耶稣再来,基督教末世论概念).”
Now, Delaney believes she was in the throes of(处于……的痛苦之中) postpartum psychosis, a severe psychiatric(精神病的,精神病学的) illness that researchers estimate occurs in one to two per 1,000 women after delivery(分娩), the conservative(保守的,谨慎的) equivalent of 3,600 US mothers each year.
‘We still know so little about the illness’
