Sadly, we’ve become used to(习惯于) far-right(极右翼的) protests(抗议,示威) in recent years. Whether it’s the vast(巨大的,广阔的) demonstrations(示威游行) led by Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (AKA(又名,亦称) Tommy Robinson) in central London, or the hundreds of local protests outside hotels and HMOs(多人合租房屋) housing asylum seekers(寻求庇护者), the sight of far-right activists chanting anti-migrant slogans has become all too common(太常见了).
What we saw in Dover and Portsmouth over the weekend feels different.(周末我们在多佛和朴次茅斯看到的情况感觉不同。) At roughly 7am on Saturday morning, hundreds of balaclava-clad(戴着巴拉克拉瓦面罩的) men, dressed all in black, began piling out(涌出) of the backs of vans and blocked(封锁,堵塞) roads around Dover port. Shockingly(令人震惊地), the police appear to have known nothing about it in advance(事先,提前).
Then, on Sunday evening, a group of men gathered(聚集) near a Portsmouth beach to “block” the arrival of asylum seekers on a boat. The group had been monitoring(监控,监测) maritime(海事的,海运的) apps and tracking(追踪) the progress of boats towards Britain. They put out a call(发出号召) for people to join them and dozens(数十个) answered, including well-known activists from the neo-Nazi(新纳粹的) movement.
