I’m standing atop(在……顶上) a very tall ladder, peer(凝视,仔细看)ing down through a haze(薄雾,雾气) of liquid nitrogen vapour into a giant stainless steel flask(长颈瓶,烧瓶) containing three smaller containers.

Inside the smaller wedge(楔形物,楔形块)s – which are labelled 005, 006, 007 – are three of Peter Tsolakides’ “patients”. The ladder is inside a normal-looking shed in an industrial estate(工业区,工业园区) in Holbrook(澳大利亚新南威尔士州乡村小镇) in regional New South Wales. Next to the shed is a grassy block strewn(散落着,撒满) with several wrecked(报废的,撞毁的) Hondas. Across the road is the local fire brigade.
