The accelerating climate crisis and this year’s record-breaking El Niño mean that, although the summer’s heatwaves are still fresh in the memory, households in the UK are already being told to prepare for a potentially destructive winter of storms and heavy rain – leaving millions of homes at risk of flooding.(加速的气候危机和今年破纪录的厄尔尼诺意味着,尽管夏季热浪仍记忆犹新,英国家庭却已被告知要为可能具破坏性的风暴和暴雨冬季做准备——使数百万住宅面临洪水风险。)

The first step is to check whether your home or neighbourhood is listed(被列为) at risk of flooding on the government’s website. If it is, find out if the local council(地方议会) has a flood alert scheme(计划) and make sure you and your neighbours are signed up to(注册) that and the Environment Agency(英国环境署)’s flood alerts system.
第一步是在政府网站上查询你的住宅或社区是否被列为洪水风险区。如果是,了解当地议会是否有洪水警报计划,并确保你和邻居都注册了该计划以及环境署的洪水警报系统。
