When he first arrived in his new home in a small village in the Italian Alps in March 2022, 15-year-old Denys* says he felt homesick(想家的) and confused. He had been put on an overnight bus and relocated along with more than 100 other children from his orphanage in Berdiansk, in eastern Ukraine, which was one of the first areas to be invaded by Russian troops.(他和其他100多名儿童一起,被送上夜班巴士,从乌克兰东部别尔江斯克的孤儿院转移出来,那里是最早被俄军入侵的地区之一。)
“Ukraine was all I knew,” says Denys. “I had never left it my whole life.”(“乌克兰是我所知道的一切,”丹尼斯说。
But after he began going to school, making friends and integrating(融入,融合) into Italian life, Denys says he no longer(不再) wanted to go back home. “I started to realise there was a different way of life I could be living,” he says. “One that didn’t involve airstrikes and poverty, and that could give me better opportunities for my future.”(“一种不涉及空袭和贫困、能给我未来带来更好机会的生活。”)
