As the war in Gaza approaches(接近,临近) its fourth year, this week, the Guardian follows five ordinary Palestinians as they go about their lives(照常过日子). Each will tell the story of their day, revealing the terrible toll(伤亡人数;代价) of the ongoing conflict.
The flat-bed(平板(无侧栏)的) truck is open to the hot summer air, its metal frame covered on two sides by draped tarpaulins(防水帆布), the rear by a pegged-up bedsheet. On the tin floor lies a squab(厚坐垫;矮胖的) mattress and pillow with a yellow frilled cover.
Mansoura Ibrahim Mohammed Abdel Dayem balances a thin cushion at the truck bed’s metal edge to protect her knees as she crawls in and out.(曼苏拉·易卜拉欣·穆罕默德·阿卜杜勒·达耶姆爬进爬出时,会把一个薄垫子垫在车斗的金属边缘上,护住膝盖。) She lowers her foot to the plastic chair below, then drops to the ground, staggering(踉跄,摇晃) slightly as she gets her balance. Mansoura is 76 years old. The truck is her home now. All around her, her family live in tents, the fabric ripped and fraying(磨损,磨散).
