Her name was June(琼;六月). June would be the last month she ever knew.(六月成了她所知道的最后一个月。)
I remember the way her bed made her so small, swallowed her up(把她吞没) in the middle of the room, turned as it was to face the window(床被转过来对着窗户). With her liver failing, her skin was a ghostly apricot(幽灵般的杏黄色). June – I called her Nan – had been stalked(悄悄跟踪、纠缠) by the king of terrors, the emperor of all maladies(恐怖之王、万病之皇——癌症的经典文学称谓): cancer. That son of a bitch(那个狗娘养的东西).
The cancer was in her pancreas(胰腺). Odds of survival? “Not good” – putting it lightly(往轻里说). The maths, putting it darkly(往重里说): it’s the 12th most common cancer worldwide, the sixth most common cause of cancer death. The World Health Organization says it is “one of the cancer types with the least favourable(有利的、良好的) prognosis(预后)”. It was not favourable for my grandmother.
