“I named her Linda the linden(椴树),” she says. “Berliners are not always known for being super friendly but most people react really positively when they find out what I’m doing.(柏林人并不总是以特别友好著称,但大多数人得知我在做什么后,反应都非常积极。)”
As summer heatwaves intensify(加剧) across the city, Gläser-Bligh carries about 20 litres of water to Linda once a week during the hotter months. It takes a couple of trips up and down stairs with a watering can to finish the job, but she has noticed the tree is no longer wilting in the summer heat.(她得提着洒水壶上下楼梯跑好几趟才能完成,但她注意到这棵树在夏日高温中不再枯萎了。) Linden trees are a hallmark(标志) of Berlin, even lending their name to Unter den Linden(柏林菩提树下大街) boulevard. Their mature, dense canopies offer essential street cooling, while their blooms provide vital nectar(花蜜) for local bees.
