I went to a party recently. A fancy(高档的,花哨的) one, filled with(充满,满是) expensive people and interesting clothes.
You might find this surprising, as I expend(花费,耗费) hundreds of words a week in this publication bemoan(哀叹,抱怨)ing human interaction, but I love parties. I like free champagne, passed appetizer(开胃菜,餐前小点)s and forced, go-nowhere(毫无进展的) small talk.
Parties in Los Angeles are even better, because they usually involve at least one celebrity. In the case of this most recent event, the celebrity in question(所涉及的,该) was a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills. Well … technically a “friend of”, Bravo reality TV parlance(说法,用语) for a person who isn’t in the main cast and appears sporadically(偶尔地,零星地) on the show thanks to a social connection to one of the actual Housewives. It’s sort of like being Newman on Seinfeld(《宋飞正传》中的纽曼), or the vice-president of the United States. Easy work, if you can get it.
