Mark Fink knows exactly why he opened the first public nature library in the US. “There are a lot of barrier(障碍;壁垒)s for people to access nature(接触自然;亲近自然) here. We want people to learn about the birds and the plants in their own back yard and to appreciate that you don’t need a three-day camping trip in the mountains to experience nature.(我们希望人们了解自家后院的鸟类和植物,并明白体验自然并不需要去山里露营三天。)”
The library offers people in Colorado’s Adams county the opportunity to borrow(借入;借用) books and equipment to help them to engage with(与……互动;接触) the natural world – for free.
While most of the 40,000 items in the library’s collection(收藏;馆藏) are books, members can also check out(借出;办理借阅) 850 nature-focused “try it” kits – anything from birdwatching equipment, gardening tools and wildlife cameras to hiking gear(装备;用具), microscopes and hammocks.
