Several hours into Kyiv’s nightly curfew(宵禁), much of the capital lay dark and quiet. High above, on the roof of a grey tower block on the city’s outskirts(郊区，边缘地带), a small group of men in uniform stood beside two heavy machine guns, scanning the horizon(扫视地平线). Soon, a drone appeared.

Once, its unmistakable(不会弄错的，明显的) buzz would have sent the men scrambling(慌忙行动，争抢) towards their weapons. Now, the air defence unit will check speed and altitude on a monitor before taking a decision.
