美国环境保护署(EPA)悄然改口,不再声称美国已经淘汰了两种最危险的PFAS化合物——PFOA和PFOS。
The EPA has found that virtually no level of exposure to either in drinking water is safe, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies Pfoa as “carcinogenic to humans” and Pfos as “possibly carcinogenic”.(EPA发现饮用水中几乎任何水平的暴露都不安全,国际癌症研究机构将PFOA列为对人类致癌、PFOS列为可能致癌。) Still, the EPA is allowing Houston-based Inhance to produce containers from which Pfoa has been found to leach at high levels into the containers’ contents.(尽管如此,EPA仍允许休斯敦的Inhance公司生产容器,而研究发现PFOA会从这些容器中大量渗入内容物。) The company makes up to 200m barriers annually for plastic containers used across the US economy.

The containers present(构成,带来) an “ongoing serious and ongoing threat to public health(公共卫生),” said Kyla Bennett, a former EPA scientist who is now science policy director with the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (Peer)(公共雇员环境责任组织) non-profit.
“这些容器对公众健康构成‘持续且严重的威胁’,”前EPA科学家、现为非营利组织“公共雇员环境责任”(PEER)科学政策主任的凯拉·贝内特说。
