Wijdan and her family were living in the Nuseirat refugee camp(难民营) when the Gaza war began with the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. “We were sitting together, just about to start lunch when the bombing happened(我们坐在一起，正要开始吃午饭，轰炸就发生了。),” Wijdan recalled. “The ceiling collapse(坍塌)d over our heads. Everything went dark. I couldn’t see anything. I just started screaming the names of my sons and daughters.”
