The future of western security is being fought out(通过战斗决出胜负) in the mountains and hills surrounding the south-western Yemeni city of Taiz(塔伊兹(也门城市)), the country’s former prime minster(总理(原文拼写有误)) has said.
Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, now an adviser to Yemen’s president, said it would be catastrophic if the city fell to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, since control of the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait in the Red Sea and the road to Aden – the site of the UN-recognised government – would be lost.(赛义德称,若该城落入胡塞叛军之手将是一场灾难,因为这将使红海战略要冲曼德海峡及通往亚丁的道路失守。)
Appealing for more western help, Saeed said he had no doubt that(毫不怀疑) the Houthis intended to seize(夺取、控制) control of all of Yemen, and claimed their goal was “to help Iran to expand the chaos(混乱)”.
